Grading
Homework
All grading in here will be on points. There will be homework issued. It could be long term or short term. It can consist of reading and rewriting a brief paragraph to watching a commercial and commenting on it in a journal.
Assignments
Since this is a writing class, the majority of the time you will be writing. I will issue writing assignments, and typically you will have a full week to complete the assignment since every assignment will consist of prewriting or layout, rough draft, and a final copy.
Other assignments will consist of situational writing. Ex. Go to a sporting event, sit under a tree, sit in the dark, looking at a picture, sit with the water running, and rather than watch what is going on, try and take in the sounds that you here and write what you hear in a descriptive paragraph or relate it to another piece of writing that you find.
We will also concentrate on creative writing and formed writing (i.e. Informational, directional, narratives, persuasive).
Tests/Quizzes
Tests and quizzes will be taken occasionally, but they are not the main source of your evaluation in this class.
PSSA
All writing will be graded using the PSSA rubric. In addition to that, I will select areas I would like you to focus on while writing (i.e. Similes, metaphors, personification, spatial oriention etc.)
